When is the last time you got something fun in the mail from someone you love? No, I don’t mean amazon or The Gap.
It occurred to me a while back that I rarely send things to people in the mail. Brandon’s dad sends us cards pretty often, which the girls love. My mom sometimes sends little gifts. I remember when I was a kid my grandma K and I would always write letters back and forth. I would check the mail in excitement hoping to find something for me inside. It’s not so much like that anymore, right? Why don’t we use the mail like the good ole days? So, I challenged myself to send 1 item a week to someone for 4 weeks.
I had the girls help me wrap, write cards and put in the mail box. And, for all of you thinking you don’t have time for something like this… I promise, this is not a “send a pinterest project” type of thing here. The idea is to keep it simple, so you will actually do it. (so I would actually do it) To give you an idea, here are the things I sent:
-a card with a picture to my best friend
-maternity clothing to my cousin who is expecting
-a cookbook to a friend who is taking up cooking (I marked my favorite pages)
-a pair of earrings I no longer wear to my other best friend
It turned out to be a super fun and easy project that was not just great for the girls to see, but also a way to say hello to friends near and far! Who doesn’t love to get something fun in the mail?
Want to take part in the “Mail a Smile” challenge?
Here are some ideas to get you started:
(pick one or two ideas and just do it!)
-mail your husband a note or art work from the kids to his office. He won’t expect that! and it will for sure make him smile!
-Dig through your old pictures and mail a friend/sibling, etc a throwback picture for them to frame.
-overloaded with scarfs or accessories? Mail one to a friend so she can use it! (I promise she won’t mind that it’s used)
-If you are blessed to still have your grandparents around, write a letter to them telling them about a favorite childhood memory of yours with them. (or send a similar note to a parent, or anyone really!)
-have your child mail something to another child. Like a drawing or a copy of their favorite book.
-have a Facebook friend you have never met in person? Send them a fun card!
-send some lipgloss or fun nail polish to an old roommate. (remember the days of sharing that stuff?)
-Bake something and send it to a family member you don’t see that often.
-mail a box of gently used clothes to someone who can use it! (kids, your own stuff, maternity, etc)
-actually mail someone a card on their birthday. Wow, there’s a thought! (I seriously need to work on this)
I hope some of these ideas have gotten your wheels spinning to how you can share a smile and show love to someone you love them. Let me know if you have any other ideas!
Making the most out of life,
